Delaware Renaissance Faire Returns With An Extended And Thrilling Season

The Delaware Renaissance Faire (Delafaire) is set to return in the fall of 2023 for an extended and thrilling season, promising three weekends of festivities that are bigger and better than ever. After a successful inaugural event last year that saw 3,000 enthusiastic attendees and a sold-out weekend, the organizers are ready to triple the excitement as they once again take over Firebase Lloyd in Townsend.

Running on Saturdays and Sundays, the Delafaire 2023 season will span over three weekends, taking place on October 28-29, November 4-5, and November 11-12, with the promise of providing a remarkable experience for attendees regardless of the weather conditions.

The upcoming season is brimming with new additions and entertainment options, featuring a total of 20 professional acts from around the country. Each weekend offers unique experiences and activities.

The first weekend, on October 28-29, will host exclusive performances and Halloween-themed activities. Attendees can enjoy “Shakespeare Approves!”, a hilarious interactive show widely renowned at renaissance faires nationwide, alongside national touring acts such as Bardy Pardy and The Foxy Bard. Families are encouraged to bring their kids for trick-or-treating at craft vendor booths, and attendees of all ages can partake in the costume contest.

Delafaire 2023 promises a diverse range of entertainment, including the talents of sideshow performer Krystal Younglove, belly dancer Linwe, the sword-fighting prowess of Phoenix Swords, Sean the Whipsy Rover, and Doug Stafford of Bad Ideas Entertainment, who will delight the audience with juggling, magic, fire, bubbles, and his signature “bad ideas.” For those seeking interactive fun, the Swashbuckling Mercenaries for Hire will “shame thy friends” by placing them in the stockade.

The grand finale of the Delafaire will take place on November 11-12, with the “Masters of the Skies” event, offering a captivating birds of prey and falconry experience with a meet-and-greet and a live show that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

In addition to the array of performances and shows, over 90 craft vendors will create a bustling marketplace, offering a wide variety of wares, including era-themed clothing, jewelry, hand-crafted gifts, and more. Activities for the entire family, from archery and axe-throwing to blacksmith and pottery demonstrations, will be available. Younger attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a petting zoo, “unicorn” (pony) rides, and Renaissance-themed carnival games with prizes.

For those looking to satisfy their appetites, a delectable selection of food and beverages will be available, including Renaissance-era favorites like turkey legs and Scotch eggs, as well as food truck classics like chicken, burgers, and barbecue. Vegetarian options and a dedicated gluten-free vendor will also be on hand to cater to various dietary preferences. The locally sourced pub will be operated by The Brimming Horn Meadery, serving its award-winning mead and a selection of local beers. A portion of the pub’s proceeds will go to benefit the Choose Joy Foundation, a Delaware-based 501(c)(3) organization.
