Friday Morning Fire Displaces Two in New Castle

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office has concluded that a fire that severely damaged a home in New Castle was accidental in nature. The incident occurred in the early Friday morning.

Officials said the Goodwill Fire Company was alerted to a fire in the unit block of Monticello Boulevard, situated within the Jefferson Farms neighborhood just after midnight. Firefighters arrived at the scene, discovering flames coming from the rear of the residence.

Deputy fire marshals were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire. Their findings indicate that the fire’s point of origin was a second-floor bedroom, where it was determined that faulty electrical wiring acted as the catalyst for the blaze said Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the estimated damage resulting from the fire was valued at approximately $75,000. Tragically, the incident resulted in the displacement of one adult and one juvenile residing in the home. In light of this, the American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to the displaced residents.
