Man Facing Felony Charges After Light Poles Go Missing

Delaware State Police have arrested 55-year-old Richard Boyd of Greenwood, for his alleged involvement in a felony theft incident that took place in Ellendale last week.

Officials said the incident in question occurred on October 18, 2023, around 1:57 p.m., when troopers responded to a call at a residence located on the 15000 block of Rockin Way. The call was made in response to a reported theft.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the responding troopers spoke with a 73-year-old homeowner, who informed them that two 40-foot light poles had been stolen from his property.

Through a investigative process, law enforcement officers were able to identify Richard Boyd as the suspect in the case. Subsequently, a warrant for his arrest was issued. Officials did not say what evidence connected Boyd to the case.

On October 23, 2023, the Delaware State Police received information from the Georgetown Probation and Parole department indicating that Richard Boyd was in their custody. Boyd was then transferred into the custody of the Delaware State Police and taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with Theft Greater than $1500 and Victim is Older than 62 Years of Age (Felony) and Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony).

Boyd was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.

Court records show that a preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 26, 2023 at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
