Wilmington Police located a stolen vehicle on Wednesday evening, resulting in a high-speed chase and the eventual arrest of three suspects connected to a carjacking and potential armed robbery.
The incident began in Wilmington and unfolded along I-95 southbound, ultimately ending in a crash at the intersection of I-95 and Route 141.
Initial reports indicate that at approximately 7:30 PM on Wednesday evening, a Wilmington Police officer observed a stolen vehicle believed to be involved in a carjacking and a possible armed robbery. The vehicle was initially sighted at the intersection of 3rd Street and Madison in the city. In response, law enforcement attempted a car stop however the vehicle fled at a high-rate of speed leading to a high-speed pursuit on I-95 southbound.
The pursuit continued until the stolen vehicle crashed through a guardrail at the intersection of I-95 and Route 141. Following the crash, law enforcement officials promptly established a perimeter around the crash site. Subsequently, all three suspects involved in the incident were located hiding in the marsh by the police.
Once in custody, it was determined that the suspects had suffered injuries during the crash. Ambulances were summoned to provide medical attention to the injured suspects. In addition to the medical response, firefighters were also called to the scene to address the smoking vehicle.
