Wilmington Police have arrested three male juveniles in connection to multiple attempted vehicle thefts following an investigation.
Officials said during the months of August and September, Wilmington Police was investigating a rising number of vehicle theft incidents – mirroring the trends currently being reported by other agencies throughout the region and across the country.
Several of these cases were assigned to Detective Sgt. Brian Conkey of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Sgt. Conkey identified a 17-year-old male juvenile, and two 13-year-old male juveniles as suspects and obtained warrants for their arrest. On October 11, the 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody by members of the Uniformed Services Division without incident. On October 12, the two 13-year-old male juveniles were taken into custody by members of the Criminal Investigations Division and Safe Streets Task Force without incident.
The 17-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Attempt to Commit Vehicle Theft – Two Counts, Conspiracy (Second Degree) – Two Counts, Criminal Mischief Over $1,000, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $20,000 cash-only bail.
The first 13-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Attempt to Commit Vehicle Theft – Two Counts, Conspiracy (Second Degree) – Two Counts, Criminal Mischief Over $1,000, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
The second 13-year-old male juvenile has been charged with Attempt to Commit Vehicle Theft – Two Counts, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000
He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
