Two Charged In Shooting Of Young Woman

The Wilmington Police Department has apprehended two individuals in connection with a recent shooting incident that occurred on October 15.

Officials said the incident occurred in the 300 block of West 26th Street, resulting in a 22-year-old woman sustaining a gunshot wound.

Detective Joran Merced from the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Through his investigation Detective Merced identified and secured warrants for the arrest of 28-year-old Isiah Portis and 29-year-old Joshua Wright, officials said.

On October 19, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Wilmington Police executed a search warrant in the 2500 block of North Jefferson Street. During this operation, law enforcement personnel recovered a loaded 9mm handgun. Following the weapon’s discovery, Portis and Wright were taken into custody in the 300 block of Airport Road.

Isiah Portis is facing a series of charges, including First Degree Assault, Strangulation, and Second Degree Conspiracy. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and has been remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with bail set at $20,000, payable in cash only.

Joshua Wright faces several charges, including First Degree Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Second Degree Conspiracy, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000. Similar to Portis, Wright was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and is also being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $30,500, payable in cash only.

The victim was listed in stable condition at the time she was transported to a local hospital.
