13-Year-Old Charged In Newark-Area Stabbing

The New Castle County Division of Police, Criminal Investigations Unit, has arrested a 13-year-old teenager from Newark on charges of attempted murder.

Officicials said the incident occurred on Monday, November 20, around 8:00 p.m. at the Iron Hill Apartments, located in the unit block of Geneva Court in Newark.

According to reports, police were dispatched following a 9-1-1 call about a person screaming and a witness sighting of two males engaged in a physical altercation.

Upon arrival, officers forced entry into an apartment where they found a 44-year-old male victim with multiple stab wounds to the upper body. The victim received immediate medical attention and was transported to Christiana Medical Center. There, he underwent life-saving surgery and is currently in stable condition police said.

FSU first reported that according to initial reports the man was stabbed multiple times in the chest, stomach and back.

Detectives arrived at the scene to take over the investigation. The 13-year-old suspect, who had left the scene, was later arrested when he returned to the scene. He was also taken to the hospital due to an injury added police.

The charges against the teenager include first-degree attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was awaiting arraignment in Family Court at teh time of the latest update from police.
