Mountaire Farms, a prominent poultry company, has announced its intention to acquire three grain elevators located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
This acquisition is part of a deal with Nagel Farm Service, as stated in a Letter of Intent signed between the two entities. The grain facilities in question are located in Preston, Cordova, and Wye Mills, which are key locations for farmers in the Mid-Shore area.
Rex Holstein, the Vice President of Agri-Business for Mountaire Farms, expressed the company’s commitment to maintaining the high level of service that local farmers have come to expect from Nagel Farms. He highlighted the shared values between Mountaire and Nagel Farms, both being family-owned companies. The acquisition aims to continue the legacy established by Nagel Farms, recognized for its effective management over the years.
The Nagel family will retain their trucking, hardware, and crop insurance businesses, and Mountaire Farms will work towards finalizing the purchase in the coming weeks. This process includes conducting satisfactory due diligence and facilitating the transition of employees, including their employment, benefits, and seniority to Mountaire.
Currently, Mountaire Farms owns nine grain elevators on the Delmarva Peninsula and operates three feed mills.
