Police: Man Beaten With Baseball Bat Monday Morning

On Monday at approximately 6:30 a.m., New Castle County Police were called to the 1200 block of Westlawn Court (Lighthouse Hill Apartments) near the bus stop for the report of an assault with a baseball bat.

Officers arrived on scene to find the 64-year-old male victim suffering from multiple injuries to his upper body.  Initial reports indicated the suspect fled on foot towards Governor Printz Boulevard. Additional units responded to the area and located the suspect a short distance away police said. The suspect has been identified as Rafael Murillo, 29, of Wilmington.  Murillo was taken into custody without incident and officers have located the weapon according to police.

The victim was transported to Christiana Medical Center and is currently listed in critical, but stable condition.

Rafael Murillo has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.  He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $90,000 cash bail.
