Dover Man Dies After Being Struck Tuesday Night

Dover Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 57-year-old Dover man Tuesday night.

According to Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, the Dover Police Department received a 911 call around 9:35 p.m. about a crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of North DuPont Highway and Kings Highway NE. Upon arrival, officers found the victim and immediately rendered aid. He was rushed to Bayhealth Kent Campus, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The initial findings of the investigation showed that the accident involved a 2014 Ford Focus driven by an 82-year-old Dover man. The vehicle was moving southbound on North DuPont Highway as it approached Kings Highway NE. Concurrently, the victim was crossing the road south of the intersection. The Ford Focus, crossing Kings Highway NE, collided with the pedestrian said Schmid. The victim was not wearing any reflective material at the time of the accident according to Schmid. The driver of the Ford Focus was reported to be uninjured in the collision. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
