Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 54-year-old Gregory Stefan of Pennsylvania in reference to a theft investigation.
Officials said it was reported that Gregory was reaching out to victims who had deceased loved ones, meeting them at a cemetery, and designing a headstone for them.
He would then create what appeared to be a formal contract, collect payment from the victim, and then he would later send them a letter saying his business had gone bankrupt and he could not uphold the contract according to police.
Detectives assigned to the case conducted a thorough investigation and authored a warrant for Stefan’s arrest. Stefan was charged with one felony count of theft $1,500 or greater and one felony count of theft by false pretenses.
Stefan is wanted currently for his outstanding warrant. Multiple victims have come forward in Pennsylvania and New Jersey alleging similar criminal behavior officials said.
Police said they are concerned that there may be additional victims in New Castle County. If you have any information related to this incident or may be a victim of a similar crime, please contact Detective Sigoda at [email protected] or (302)395-8238.
