Rescue crews from several agencies responded to a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on Interstate 95 southbound, in the area of Churchmans Road, early Monday.
The incident, which took place at approximately 4:06 a.m., involved two SUVs and resulted in several serious injuries, according to New Castle County EMS Spokes Woman S/Sergeant Abigail Haas.
Responding to the report of a traffic collision, the Christiana Fire Company and the Minquas Fire Company of Newport arrived on scene to find one of the drivers was trapped inside their vehicle.
Paramedics were added to the response upon learning of the severity of the injuries said Haas.
On scene was a 49-year-old male, trapped in his SUV, who was freed by fire department personnel in under ten minutes. He received immediate medical attention for suspected internal injuries and was transported in critical condition to the Christiana Hospital in Stanton.
Also at the scene was a 28-year-old male passenger. He was quickly taken to Christiana Hospital in serious condition by a basic life support ambulance.
The driver of the second SUV, a 32-year-old female, was treated for possible injuries to her extremities. She was later transported to the same hospital in a stable condition.
The Delaware State Police are investigating the collision.
