The John Dickinson School in Wilmington informed parents late Wednesday afternoon about an incident that took place earlier in the day.
Just after 3:00 parents were told that the school faced a “safety incident”. The email that was sent to parents informed them that a concern was reported to a school administrator of a student potentially being in possession of a weapon, prompting them to take immediate action.
Officials said the student was escorted out of class and cooperated with administration who conducted a search of the students backpack. It was discovered that the student was in possession of an unloaded gun the email read.
The School Resource Officer (SRO) confiscated the weapon and the student was removed from the school premises. The student will face disciplinary action according to the Red Clay Consolidated School District Code of Conduct and further action by the Delaware State Police.
