The Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association (DVFA) has stepped up to help save lives in the First State.
The organization purchased over 3,300 smoke detectors for distribution across the state. These devices, crucial for early fire detection and prevention of fatalities, were acquired using reserve funds of the DVFA and were obtained at a discounted cost from the Lowes at Brandywine Town Center in Wilmington.
This initiative comes in response to the concerning statistic that in 2023, Delaware witnessed 14 fire-related fatalities, with 80% of these incidents occurring in homes lacking functioning smoke detectors according to DVFA. The distribution of these detectors aims to reduce such incidents and enhance public safety.
The DVFA’s effort includes stocking every Delaware Volunteer Fire Company and the City of Wilmington Fire Department with these life-saving devices. They are readily available for Delaware residents who need them.
Residents in need of a smoke detector for their home are encouraged to visit any local fire station to obtain one. The distribution of these smoke detectors, available at no cost.
