The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is currently conducting an investigation into a fire that occurred on Monday. The incident resulted in damage to Sussex County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic vehicles and a detached carport structure in Milton.
The incident took place in the 24000 block of Broadkill Road, Milton shortly before 5:00. Upon receiving the report, the Milton Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a vehicle and a carport structure engulfed in flames. Mutual aid fire companies were called in to assist in controlling the fire.
Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal John Galaska said state fire investigators were dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The investigators concluded that the fire started in the rear of a parked vehicle and was accidental in nature. It was caused by an unknown electrical malfunction added Galaska.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.00. A Sussex County Paramedic was treated and released at an area Hospital as a precaution after attempting to extinguish the fire and move another vehicle to safety. There were no other reported injuries.
