Smoke Detectors Alert Residents In Thursday Morning House Fire

An investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has concluded that the house fire that occurred this morning in Wilmington was accidental. The incident took place in the Longwood neighborhood, in the 4000 block of Greenmount Road.

Chief Deputy Robert Fox said the Talleyville Fire Company received the notification of the fire shortly after 9:30 AM. Upon their arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames emanating from a two-story single-family home. Due to an earlier fire on Concord Pike, mutual aid companies were already responding to the area and diverted to the house fire.

Deputy Fire Marshals said their investigation showed that the fire originated in a first-floor living area, caused by an electrical malfunction.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. However, the property suffered significant damages, estimated at around seventy thousand dollars. It was noted that the residence did not have sprinklers installed. Smoke detectors alerted the residents, allowing them to evacuate safely.
