Avelo Airlines marks a significant milestone, the first anniversary of its inaugural flight from Wilmington’s Airport (ILG) to Orlando.
Today not only commemorates a year of Avelo’s operations but also highlights the transformation of ILG from a non-commercial airport into a vital hub for the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley Region.
Andrew Levy, Avelo’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO, expressed his satisfaction with the company’s achievements. “In just one year, we’ve revolutionized ILG into a dynamic gateway, offering flights to nine destinations across three states and Puerto Rico, all while maintaining industry-leading reliability,” said Levy.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority’s (DRBA) Deputy Executive Director, Stephen Williams, shared in the celebration. He highlighted the record passenger boardings and excellent on-time service that marked the airport’s return to primary commercial service status ahead of schedule. “Our partnership with Avelo Airlines has been a commercial success, and we’re excited about the future,” Williams stated.
Expanding Horizons from Wilmington
Since establishing its base at Wilmington Airport, Avelo Airlines has completed over 2,100 flights, serving nearly 286,000 customers. The airline currently connects ILG with destinations such as Myrtle Beach, Wilmington, N.C., San Juan, and six cities in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Sarasota / Bradenton, Tampa, and West Palm Beach.
Convenience at the Forefront
Wilmington Airport’s strategic location, just a short drive south of Philadelphia, offers travelers a fast, smooth, and simple airport experience. With its proximity to major highways and railways, ILG stands as the most convenient airport for residents in the Delaware Valley, which includes Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, South Jersey, and the northern Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Avelo’s Nationwide Impact
Since its inception on April 28, 2021, Avelo Airlines has flown over four million customers on more than 30,000 flights. The airline now serves 43 destinations across 23 states and Puerto Rico, operating from six bases, including Wilmington Airport. Avelo is known for its nonstop flights, often to underserved communities, offering a unique blend of convenience and accessibility.
Reliability and Customer Focus
Avelo’s commitment to reliability was highlighted in 2023 when it achieved the lowest flight cancellation rate and the second-best on-time performance in the U.S. airline industry. The airline also provides flexible travel options, including no-fee itinerary changes or cancellations, automatic seating for children with adults, and a range of unbundled services like priority boarding and cabin pet accommodation.
Looking Ahead
As Avelo Airlines continues to expand, with a new base opening in May 2024 at the Bay Area’s Sonoma County Airport (STS), it remains committed to inspiring travel through low fares, convenience, and a reliable travel experience. With a fleet of 16 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, Avelo is set to further its impact in the U.S. travel industry.
