County Releases Initial Details In Wednesday Shooting

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of Bassett Avenue in New Castle. 

On Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 3:31 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the New Castle Crossing apartment complex for a shooting that just occurred.  Two officers in the area observed a vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed from the scene at which time they attempted to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle continued to flee and crashed near 295 and New Castle Avenue. Officers arrived at the crash and contacted the occupants, learning one of the passengers, a 20-year-old male, had been shot. He was transported to the hospital via ambulance where he remains in stable condition.

Officers then learned there was a second victim who had been transported to Wilmington Manor Fire Company by a private vehicle.  This victim was identified as a 22-year-old male and he was transported via ambulance to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Detectives from the Division’s Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Detection Unit have responded to the scene to assume the investigation. This remains an active and ongoing investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available. The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area for the next several hours.
