Delaware State Police arrested 19-year-old Aaron Rambert of Newark, Delaware, following a stolen vehicle investigation.
Officials said on February 19, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a trooper responded to Wawa, located at 970 Christiana Road in Newark, for a stolen vehicle complaint. The investigation revealed that a Toyota RAV4 was left running in the parking lot while the driver entered the store. When the driver returned to the parking lot, the vehicle was gone. A review of surveillance footage revealed that an unidentified man wearing black clothing had stolen the Toyota.
Through investigative means, the trooper located the stolen Toyota parked near the 800 block of Village Circle in Newark. As the trooper approached the stolen Toyota, he noticed a man in the driver’s seat who matched the description of the suspect captured on the video surveillance. Additionally, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The suspect, later identified as Aaron Rambert, initially refused to comply with instructions to exit the vehicle. When the trooper tried to arrest Rambert, he resisted police said. After a brief struggle, Rambert was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of both Rambert and the vehicle uncovered drug paraphernalia along with approximately 1.85 grams of marijuana. Rambert was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with the following offenses:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
- Resisting
- Consume Personal Use Quantity of Marijuana in Public Areas
- Loitering
- Possession of Personal Use Quantity of Marijuana Under 21
Rambert was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.
