Man Charged With Burglarizing Milford Home While Occupied

Milford Police are investigating a burglary that occurred over the weekend.

Officials said on February 3, 2024, at around 3:34 pm, the Milford Police Department was dispatched to a home located in the 400 block of Carlisle Lane following reports of an ongoing burglary. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered both the suspect and the victim within the premises. The suspect was apprehended without incident.

The initial investigation showed that the suspect, who was identified as 21-year-old Emerson Hernandez of Milford, had a prior acquaintance with the victim. Hernandez had gained access to the home through a window. Following the incident, he faced charges including first-degree burglary and criminal mischief, with damages valued under $1000.

Hernandez was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court 3, where his bail was set at $20,100, cash only. Additionally, a directive prohibiting any contact between Hernandez and the victim was ordered. He is slated for a preliminary hearing at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
