Newark Man Indicted In November Fatal Hit-And-Run, Released On Unsecured Bond

Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man in connection with a November 2023 fatal motor vehicle collision.

In the early hours of November 27, 2023, 38-year-old Glenn Dupont was fatally struck by a motor vehicle on the 100 block of North Monroe Street.

Wilmington Police, responding to the scene at approximately 5:49 a.m., found Dupont, who later died from his injuries in the roadway. The vehicle involved had left the scene before the arrival of the police according to officials.

This incident led to an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department’s Traffic Unit, headed by Cpl. Keith Johnson. Through their efforts, investigators were able to identify 27-year-old Everton Ellis of Newark as the suspect in this hit-and-run case police said Thursday.

The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury on January 29, resulting in an indictment against Ellis and he was arrested on January 31.

Ellis now faces charges, including Operation of a Vehicle Causing the Death of Another Person and Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Superior Court and subsequently released on a $10,000 unsecured bail.

Wilmington Police said in an earlier statement that their preliminary investigation showed that Dupont was in the roadway when he was struck by a bus. In the follow-up statement out Thursday, they did not mention the bus. Additionally, in their previous statement, they did not mention that this incident was a hit-and-run incident.
