The Criminal Investigations Unit of the Newark Police Department is currently conducting an investigation of an incident that was reported to have occurred at the Acme grocery store located at 100 Grove Lane.
Officials said the victim’s family reported that on February 17, 2024, at approximately 3:45 P.M., an 8-year-old child was seated in a grocery cart while in the store. An unknown Black male, pictured below, who is not known by the child or the people that she was with, took control of the cart and began to quickly push the cart away.
The unknown male was stopped and confronted by the people who were with the child in the store. The male let go of the cart and left the store after the confrontation.
