Man Facing 5th DUI Charge After Traffic Stop

Delaware State Police arrested 31-year-old Wilson Vazquez-Lopez of Ellendale, Delaware, for a 5th offense felony DUI last night.

Officials said on March 21, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a trooper on patrol saw a green GMC Sierra weaving left and right while driving southbound on South Dupont Highway in the area of Farmington.

The trooper saw the driver of the GMC make additional traffic violations and pulled the truck over. The driver, identified as Wilson Vazquez-Lopez, showed signs of impairment and the trooper administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests according to police. After the tests, Vazquez-Lopez was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

A computer check showed that Vazquez-Lopez had four prior DUI-related convictions. Vazquez-Lopez was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with 5th Offense DUI (Felony), Driving while Suspended or Revoked License, Failure to Remain within a Single Lane, and Failure to Use Turn Signal.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,200 cash bond.
