A high-speed police chase unfolded on Thursday evening, around 6:30, when Wilmington Police attempted to pull over a red Nissan Altima with heavily tinted windows.
The driver fled, leading authorities on a pursuit that took them onto the highway and through various parts of New Castle County, eventually ending at a shopping center located at the intersection of Route 40 and Salem Church Road.
The chase involved a series of maneuvers, with the vehicle speeding down I-95 southbound, weaving through Old Baltimore Pike, darting through yards in Sparrow Run, and then returning to Route 40 where the chase turned into a slow-speed chase. The car finally stopped in the parking lot of the Salem Center Shopping Center located at 1635 Pulaski Highway in Bear. After the vehicle stopped officers with long guns drawn performed a felony car stop and removed the occupants.
Police have not released details surrounding the chase, however, initial reports indicate that one male and possibly two females were in the vehicle during the chase. There were also reports that one of the individuals was potentially armed with a handgun.
Law enforcement officials managed to bring the incident to a close just before 8:00 almost an hour and a half after it began. The suspect, or suspects, involved were taken into custody and transported back to Wilmington.
The only information released by authorities was by the Delaware State Police last evening.
The Delaware State Police is currently assisting @WPDPIO with a criminal investigation. As a result, there will be a large police presence in the parking lot of Salem Center on Pulaski Highway. Please avoid the area until this tweet is updated.
This article will be updated when WPD releases additional details.
