Troopers Identify Man Fatally Stabbed Wednesday

Delaware State Police have arrested 39-year-old Clarissa Sierra of Wilmington in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred Wednesday morning.

Officials said on February 28, 2024, at approximately 12:54 a.m., troopers responded to the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Clayton Road in Wilmington for a report of a stabbing. The suspect, Clarissa Sierra, had called 911, reporting her involvement in a physical altercation that resulted in a stabbing according to police. When troopers arrived, they discovered 42-year-old William Villafane of New Castle, suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Villafane was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Sierra, who police described as Villafane’s girlfriend, was apprehended at the scene without incident and found to be in possession of a knife officials said. She was transported to Troop 2, where she was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to the Department of Corrections on a $1,065,00 cash bond.

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is still actively investigating this incident. Emergency responders were dispatched to the Sunoco gas station located at 1950 Maryland Avenue in Wilmington on Tuesday evening

At 12:54 Five Points Fire Company, New Castle County Paramedics, and Police officers responded following reports of a stabbing.

While en route crews learned that a male in his 30s had been stabbed and the assailant was still on scene. Crews also learned that the incident was across the street from the Sunoco on Clayton Road and that CPR was ongoing.

The patient was transported to the trauma center reportedly with a stab wound to the upper torso. His injuries were very serious at the time of transport.

It’s not clear if an arrest was made in connection to this incident.

Residents in the neighborhood tell FSU that the police removed the police tape and left the neighborhood at around 10:00 this morning.
