The Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash near Houston that left a woman dead last night.
Officials said on March 26, 2024, at approximately 9:24 p.m., a 2019 Kia Sportage was traveling northbound on Broad Street approaching the stop sign at Milford-Harrington Highway.
At the same time, a 2006 Kenworth dump truck was traveling eastbound on Milford-Harrington Highway approaching Broad Street, which is a throughway. For reasons under investigation, the driver of the Kia didn’t remain stopped at the stop sign and entered the intersection directly into the path of the dump truck according to police. As a result, the front of the dump truck struck the left side of the Kia.
The driver of the dump truck, a 59-year-old man from Harrington, Delaware, was not injured. The driver of the Kia, an 85-year-old woman from Magnolia, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.
The roadway was closed for approximately four and a half hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
