Crash Sends Two To Trauma Center Tuesday, One By Air

Just before 8:15 Tuesday evening emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Newport Gap Pike and Cheltenham Road in Wilmington.

Upon arrival, crews found two individuals, both males, trapped in their vehicles and begin work to extricate the patients.

Crews from Cranston Heights, Hockessin, Five Points, along with New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 responded to the crash.

Under the command of Cranston Heights Deputy 14, Joe Swift, the trapped individuals were freed from the wreckage after around twenty minutes.

Once freed from the vehicles, both individuals received immediate medical attention for their injuries at the scene. One of the victims, identified as a 30-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Christiana Hospital for further medical treatment. The other trapped individual, an 18-year-old male, also with serious injuries, was transported by ground ambulance to Christiana Hospital.
