Police: Rider Killed When SUV Slams Into Him In Dover

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that left a 64-year-old Pennsylvania man dead Monday afternoon. 

Officials said at approximately 12:39 p.m., Dover Police received a call for a serious crash involving a Nissan Murano and a motorcycle, in the area of North DuPont Highway and Rustic Lane.

Officers responded to the area and located the 64-year-old victim, and immediately began to render aid. The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.

The investigation showed that a Suzuki Motorcycle, operated by the victim, was stopped at the red light on North DuPont Highway southbound at the intersection of Rustic Lane. At the same time, a Nissan Murano, operated by a 20-year-old Middletown man, was traveling Southbound on North DuPont Highway approaching the same intersection. For unknown reasons, the 20-year-old failed to stop for traffic and struck the rear of the motorcycle according to police. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 and a half hours due to this investigation.
