Suspect Facing Assualt Charge In Wilmington Shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested 19-year-old Kylier Coleman-Smith, in connection with a shooting that occurred on March 6.

Officials said the incident, which took place around 7:55 a.m. on the 500 block of East 9th Street, resulted in a 20-year-old male suffering gunshot wounds. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition.

Detective Brendan Shea of the Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation into the shooting. His investigation culminated in the identification of Coleman-Smith as the suspect, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants according to police.

On April 10, officers from the Canine Unit located Coleman-Smith on the 500 block of North Madison Street and detained him without incident. He faces charges of first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm on a city street.

Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Coleman-Smith was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. His bail has been set at $120,100 cash-only.
