Teen Struck After Gunfire Erupts In Cecil County Woods

On Tuesday evening, April 2, 2024, around 8:30 PM, Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Nazarene Camp Road in North East, Maryland, following a 911 emergency call reporting a shooting incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers encountered a 17-year-old individual who had sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh. The injured party was transported by ground ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, where they received treatment for injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

Further investigation into the incident by Cecil County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detectives revealed that the victim, along with two acquaintances, was walking through a wooded area when an unidentified assailant(s) unexpectedly opened fire in their direction. In an attempt to escape, the trio fled the scene to seek help, during which the 17-year-old discovered they had been struck. Emergency responders, alongside deputies, administered first aid to the wounded individual at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward and contact Detective Heather Cotton at (410) 392-2000 extension 3362, or via email at [email protected], to assist in the ongoing inquiry.
