Two Dead After Sunday Morning Shootings

Officials are investigating two shootings that left two dead Sunday morning.

The first shooting incident took place at approximately 1:38 Sunday morning at the intersection of West 3rd and North Union Streets.

The Wilmington Police Department said they found a 35-year-old male with gunshot wounds who was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Wilmington’s shooting occurred at around the same time authorities responded to reports of shots fired at Delaware State University (DSU). Officials said at around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, DSU authorities responded to reports of gunfire near the Warren Franklin Residential Hall’s northend underpass.

An 18-year-old female, not affiliated with the university, was discovered with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Bayhealth Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased according to a DSU spokesman.

Officials said the victim in the Dover shooting might have been visiting a student along with another non-student. Suspects were reportedly last seen fleeing toward College Road.

Emergency services were dispatched to the DSU incident for reports of an unconscious subject at 2:12 am and arrived approximately eight minutes later, according to radio traffic.

The Dover Police Department is assisting DSU police in the investigation of this incident.
