A series of shootings unfolded in Wilmington across Wednesday and early Thursday, leaving five individuals wounded, according to local police reports.
The sequence of events began Wednesday afternoon, just before 2:10, when a gunshot victim sought help at a fire station on New Castle Avenue. At the same time, a second individual, also suffering from gunshot injuries, was discovered in the 400 block of South Heald Street. Both victims, 19-year-old males, were transported to a nearby trauma center, with multiple gunshot wounds. The man that was found shot on Heald Street succumbed to his injuries.
Later the same evening, around 10:45, another shooting was reported on the 700 block of Maryland Avenue. Emergency responders arrived to find that one victim had been taken to St. Francis Hospital by a private vehicle. Two men, aged 23 and 22, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, the older of the two in critical condition and the younger in stable condition.
The violence continued into Thursday morning, with police called to C Street in the South Bridge neighborhood shortly after 1:30 AM. A 16-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity and was transported for medical care.
