The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that this morning’s house fire in New Castle was accidental.
Officials said at approximately 9:00 this morning The Wilmington Manor Fire Company was alerted to a house fire in the unit block of Hodgkins Place, in the Llangollen Estates Community. Upon arrival the Fire Department found smoke and fire coming from the residence with a report of subjects trapped. Three occupants of the residence escaped the fire and were rescued from a second-floor deck by arriving firefighters.
State Fire Marshal Deputies were called to the scene and determined the fire originated in the lower level of the residence and was caused by discarded smoking material according to authorities.
Three Occupants of the residence were treated by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to ChristianaCare Emergency Department. One occupant was transferred to Crozer Burn Center in serious condition. The two other occupants were treated for smoke inhalation.
Damage to the residence is estimated at $50,000 dollars. No other injuries were reported
