Man Killed In Newark-Area Crash Saturday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday morning in Newark that left one man dead.

On May 11, 2024, at approximately 11:25 a.m., a Chevrolet Cruze was driving eastbound East Chestnut Hill Road turning left onto Chestnut Crossing Drive. At the same time, a Ford Mustang was driving westbound on East Chestnut Hill Road in the left lane. The preliminary investigation showed that the Ford was driving at an apparent high rate of speed and the front of the Ford hit the passenger side of the Chevrolet according to police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 47-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The unrestrained back-seat passenger, a 27-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was ejected from the car. He was transported to an area hospital where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The driver of the Ford, a 19-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
