Officials Update Route 1 Crash, Three Transported To Hospital

Just before 6:30 Monday morning, emergency crews were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on State Route 1 atop the Roth Bridge, according to New Castle County Paramedics’ Lieutenant Abigail Haas.

Haas said upon arrival, units discovered a collision involving two vehicles, a truck and a sedan that had been involved in a motor vehicle crash. The collision resulted in significant damage and injured a 41-year-old male occupant of the sedan.

Crews provided immediate medical attention on-site before transporting the patient via Delaware City Ambulance to Christiana Hospital. He was listed in serious condition with possible internal injuries. Two additional patients were transported by ambulances to Christiana Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident disrupted the morning commute, sending motorists onto alternate routes to try and get across the canal. The Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
