On Monday, May 27, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Garnet Road in response to a report of three juveniles attempting to break into a Hyundai Sonata.
Officials said upon arrival, officers conducted a search of the area and located three juvenile suspects matching the provided descriptions walking on Kiamensi Road in Belvedere. The suspects, identified as a 13-year-old male and two 15-year-old females, all from Wilmington, were found in possession of several USB cables and pocketknives according to police. While in police custody, the 13-year-old male threatened to harm the officers and attempted to escape from the back of the police car, but officers successfully restrained him police said.
The 13-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with multiple crimes. These charges include one felony count of possession of burglar tools or instruments, one felony count of burglary in the third degree, one felony count of attempting to commit theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threatening, one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief involving less than $5000, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, and one misdemeanor count of attempted escape in the third degree. The 13-year-old was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $11,000 unsecured bail.
The 15-year-old female was also transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where she faced several charges. She was charged with one felony count of possession of burglar tools or instruments, one felony count of burglary in the third degree, one felony count of attempting to commit theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of hindering prosecution, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief involving less than $5000. The 15-year-old female was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $3,000 unsecured bail.
The second 15-year-old female was similarly transported to New Castle County Police headquarters and charged with one felony count of possession of burglar tools or instruments, one felony count of burglary in the third degree, one felony count of attempting to commit theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief involving less than $5000. This 15-year-old female was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.
