Police: Chase Ends When Stolen Vehicle Collides With Police Tahoe

Delaware State Police arrested 32-year-old Jacob McCulley of Viola, Delaware, for multiple offenses following a pursuit in a stolen GMC Terrain Wednesday night in Dover.

Troopers arrested 32-year-old Jacob McCulley of Viola, Delaware, following a pursuit involving a stolen GMC Terrain in Dover police said Thursday. The incident began on June 12, 2024, at approximately 10:17 p.m., when a trooper on patrol on Route 13 near POW/MIA Parkway observed a black GMC Terrain fail to stop at a stop sign. The trooper quickly identified the vehicle as stolen and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver sped away northbound according to police.

During the ensuing pursuit, McCulley drove recklessly through several Dover streets and roads. The chase came to an end when the GMC collided with a marked Dover Police Department Tahoe at the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and New Burton Road. Following the collision, McCulley fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

A subsequent search of McCulley and the stolen vehicle revealed the presence of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

McCulley was taken to Troop 3, where he faced multiple charges, including Receiving Stolen Property over $1,500 (Felony), Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,458 secured bond.
