Police: Teen, 15, Tried To Rob Elderly Man, Released On OR

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:47 a.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the Jack Markell Trail near Manor Park for an attempted robbery.

Officials said officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the 76-year-old victim, who reported that while he was riding his bicycle, a juvenile ran toward him and demanded his bicycle. The victim managed to ride away to a safe location and then called the police, and provided a description of the suspect. Officers from the Mobile Enforcement Team, who were already in the area, quickly located a suspect matching the victim’s description and detained him pending further investigation.

The 15-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with one felony count of attempt to commit robbery in second degree.

The 15-year-old was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on his own recognizance.
