Tractor-Trailer Rollover Sends One To Hospital, Causing Major Delays

Thursday morning, at approximately 5:10., emergency crews responded to an accident involving a tractor-trailer rollover on I-95 Northbound at Otts Chapel Road in Newark. The accident has resulted in heavy traffic delays expected to persist for much of the morning.

According to initial reports, the tractor-trailer hydroplaned on the wet road surface, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck, carrying no trailer, subsequently overturned and landed off the roadway. Emergency responders from various agencies, including Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, New Castle County Paramedics, and Elkton, were dispatched to the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a man in his 20s, self-extricated prior to the arrival of rescue crews. He was attended to by EMTs on-site before being transported to Christiana Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed at this time,

In addition to the primary accident response, crews have been working to clear the wreckage and manage the spill of any potentially hazardous materials from the overturned truck. Significant guard rail damage was reported.

At least one lane has been taken out. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes. The Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
