Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred near Milton on Thursday afternoon.
On May 30, 2024, at approximately 2:28 p.m., a Mercedes E-Class was driving southbound on Harbeson Road slowing down to turn left onto Carpenter Road. At the same time, a Toyota RAV-4 was driving northbound on Harbeson Road approaching Carpenter Road. For reasons under investigation, the Mercedes turned directly in front of the RAV-4 and as a result, the front of the Mercedes hit the front of the RAV-4, according to police.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 62-year-old woman from Camden, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. A passenger, a 12-year-old child, was also taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, 65-year-old Lucia Amaya from Harbeson, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where she died. Two passengers, a 44-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
