Update: Massive Response To Dover Shooting Tuesday

On Tuesday afternoon, rescue crews were dispatched to the Harmony at Kent senior-living center at 1435 East Lebanon Road following reports of a shooting incident. The call came in shortly after 5:40 PM, prompting a response from Delaware State Police and several rescue crews.

As crews were en route, information was relayed indicating the presence of an armed individual outside the facility and a shooting victim in the vicinity. Shortly after the arrival of the troopers, the scene was deemed safe for rescue personnel to approach.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that emergency medical personnel discovered at least two individuals suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Both individuals were in critical condition at the time of transport.

Photographs from the scene show authorities with long guns drawn and firefighters running nearby. One of the transported subjects, a male, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds according to initial reports.

Details regarding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, including whether the shooter turned the gun on himself or if law enforcement officers discharged their weapons. Witnesses in nearby homes reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid Route 10 (East Lebanon Road) between Route 1 and South State Street in Dover, as Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) crews have closed the road for the ongoing investigation.

The Delaware State Police issued the following statement: “Police Activity – Dover: Please avoid the area of the 1400 block of East Lebanon Rd. due to an ongoing criminal investigation. There is no threat to public safety related to this incident. We will provide updates as soon as more information is available.”
