The Delaware State Police arrested 47-year-old John Fester of West Chester, Pennsylvania, for vehicular assault and DUI charges following a crash investigation that occurred Tuesday night in Greenville.
Officials said on July 16, 2024, at approximately 11:35 p.m., troopers responded to the intersection of Montchanin Road and Buck Road in Greenville, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
Upon arriving, troopers observed two pickup trucks disabled in the roadway with front end damage. In the ensuing investigation, troopers learned a black Toyota Tundra, operated by John Fester, was traveling in the southbound lane of Montchanin Road, approaching the intersection with Buck Road. At the same time, a red Chevrolet F-150 was traveling in the northbound lane of Montchanin Road, approaching the same intersection. The Toyota failed to maintain its lane and entered the northbound lane in the Chevrolet’s path of travel according to police. As a result, the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Chevrolet in the northbound lane of Montchanin Road.
The 22-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital for serious injuries sustained in the crash.
Officials said during the investigation, troopers observed multiple beer cans scattered within the proximity of the Toyota. Upon making contact with Fester, troopers observed multiple signs of impairment and smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Fester’s breath police said. Fester was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1, where he was charged with Vehicular Assault 1st Degree (Felony), Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence, and Multiple Traffic Violations., arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and released after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
