The Newark Police Department has published its Annual Report for 2023, providing a detailed overview of various aspects of policing within the city. This article focuses on the Property Crimes category in 2023. Links to the other crime stat categories are posted at the bottom of this article.
The total number of property crimes decreased from 1,204 incidents in 2022 to 998 in 2023. This reduction is evident across various categories.
Criminal mischief, damage, and vandalism saw a slight decline of 2.53%, dropping from 237 incidents to 231. Fraud cases experienced a notable reduction of 25.33%, with incidents decreasing from 300 to 224. Arson cases had the most significant decrease, dropping by 52% from 25 incidents to just 12.
Stolen property offenses also saw a decline of 6.25%, with incidents reducing from 16 to 15. Motor vehicle thefts remained constant at 56 incidents, showing no change from the previous year.
Thefts, which constitute a large portion of property crimes, decreased by 21.77%, from 620 incidents in 2022 to 485 in 2023.
