On July 20, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Middletown Police attempted to stop an Audi A5 for a registration violation in the area of West Main Street and North Cass Street. The vehicle failed to stop, initiating a pursuit that ended shortly after when the car was found unoccupied on the 300 block of Northampton Way.
Officials said further investigation showed the Audi A5 had been reported stolen from Pennsylvania. A K9 track was initiated with the assistance of the New Castle County Police K9 Unit. During the search, Niisaiah Carter, 24, of Seaford, was found hiding in the wood line a short distance from where the vehicle was abandoned. Carter was arrested without incident.
Upon searching Carter, officers discovered a large sum of money, drug packaging materials, and approximately 53 grams of suspected marijuana in his pockets and a backpack he was carrying police said. Carter was taken into custody and charged with Manufacture/Deliver/Possession With Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Receiving Stolen Property Value over $1500, Disregarding a Police Officer Signal, and eight additional traffic offenses. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of an $8,207.00 cash bond.
