Milford Police have arrested two men after a traffic stop led to a struggle.
Officials said on July 14, 2024, at approximately 2:28 a.m., a Milford Police Department Patrol Officer observed a gray Chevrolet Silverado traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on NE Front Street near East Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle came to a stop near SE Front Street and Marshall Street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed signs of impairment in the driver, identified as Sergio Gomez-Gonzalez, 23, of Lincoln according to police. A Driving Under the Influence (DUI) investigation was initiated. Gomez-Gonzalez refused to complete the standard field sobriety tests and resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
The passenger, Brayan Ramirez-Ramirez, 22, of Greenwood, interfered with the officers attempting to arrest Gomez-Gonzalez. Ramirez-Ramirez resisted arrest and caused minor injuries to two officers during the struggle police said. He was also taken into custody without further incident.
Officials said a search of Gomez-Gonzalez’s vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of 5.6 grams of crack cocaine and other drug paraphernalia. Gomez-Gonzalez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Tier 1 Quantity), Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving a Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol, and other traffic-related offenses. After presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 7, he was committed to the Department of Correction on an intoxication hold. He was later was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
Ramirez-Ramirez faced charges of two counts of Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Resisting Arrest. He also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Following a presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 7, he was committed to the Department of Correction with $3000 cash bail and $5000 secured bail for his warrants. Additionally, he was given a $3000 unsecured bail for the new charges and ordered to appear in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas at a later date regarding the incident.
