Gunfire Rings Out In Bear When Police Arrive On Scene

Bear, DE — New Castle County Police are actively investigating an incident that occurred just before midnight on Sunday in the Crofton development of Bear. Rescue crews were dispatched at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Saturday evening to the unit block of Augustine Place following reports of an assault.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, as authorities have yet to release an official statement. However, video footage obtained by First State Update captures a heated argument in the street, with individuals shouting and cursing moments before a vehicle is seen reversing and ramming into another car. The driver of the ramming vehicle then appears to attempt to leave the scene.

As the vehicle begins to leave, police lights suddenly illuminate the neighborhood, and shortly thereafter, gunfire can be heard. It is not yet confirmed whether anyone was struck by the gunfire or if a police officer was involved.

The Delaware State Police were also reportedly present at the scene so it’s unclear what agencies arrived first.

Residents report the police are telling him they can’t leave for work with their vehicles.
