Kids, 12 And 13, Facing Serious Charges After Shots Fired

Two juveniles, aged 12 and 13, have been arrested by Wilmington Police in connection with an attempted vehicle theft, attempted robbery, and a shots-fired incident late Monday.

Officials said the arrests followed an investigation after police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Bowers Street for a report of criminal mischief involving a damaged vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers heard a single gunshot from the 2900 block of Northeast Boulevard. Officers responded to the area and found that multiple juveniles had attempted to steal a vehicle, damaging it in the process. The suspects also removed a firearm from the vehicle and attempted to rob an individual who confronted them police said. As the suspects fled, one discharged the stolen firearm in the area where the shot was heard.

Police located and apprehended a 13-year-old suspect at the scene without incident. A second suspect, a 12-year-old male, evaded capture but was later arrested the following day in the 2700 block of Rosemont Avenue. During a subsequent search, the stolen firearm used in the shooting was recovered.

The 13-year-old suspect faces charges including attempted robbery, burglary, theft of a firearm, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, conspiracy, and two counts of criminal mischief. He has been arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and is being held at the New Castle County Detention Center on $65,000 cash-only bail.

The 12-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, burglary, theft of a firearm, conspiracy, criminal mischief, discharging a firearm on a city street, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is being held at the New Castle County Detention Center on $67,200 cash-only bail.
