Man charged with identity theft, released on unsecured bond

A 20-year-old Philadelphia man was arrested in Wilmington for identity theft and related charges on Monday.

Officials said on August 12, 2024, Delaware State Police responded to Citizens Bank at 2098 Naamans Road, Wilmington, after receiving a report of fraud. Upon arrival, troopers learned that a black male suspect was attempting to open a bank account using documents containing the personal information of a 26-year-old victim.

Bank employees recognized the suspect, Zacarias Fasil, from previous attempts to commit fraud at Citizens Bank locations in New Jersey according to police. Fasil was taken into custody without incident.

Following his arrest, Fasil was taken to Troop 1, where he was charged with Identity Theft and four counts of Possession of Instruments Facilitating Identity Theft, all felonies. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $6,500 unsecured bond.
