The Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that left a young man in critical condition Friday morning.
According to County Paramedic’s Spokeswoman Leslie Antonelli-Hobbs, a serious motor vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 495 northbound near Edgemoor Road, at around 6:30 a.m.
Emergency crews arriving on the scene found a single vehicle involved in a collision, with the driver, an approximately 25-year-old male, heavily trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters from the responding companies worked for 25 minutes to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
Following the extrication, the patient was assessed by New Castle County Paramedics and found to be in critical condition. He suffered significant head injuries, injuries to his extremities, and potential internal injuries. The patient was then transported by a Claymont Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he is currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
The incident led to traffic delays on Interstate 495 near Edgemoor Road as emergency services managed the scene.
