Police: Stolen Crabs Located At Elkton Man’s Home

On July 31, 2024, investigators with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft from K&A Crabs located at 199 Old Chestnut Road.

Officials said items related to this business were removed throughout the night by an unknown individual. The Sheriff’s Office along with Maryland State Police investigators worked together after troopers handled similar incidents in Cecil County.

Maryland authorities learned that troopers with the Delaware State Police were investigating similar crimes in Delaware. Working together, these agencies developed and identified a suspect as Zachary Stephen Bennett, 33, of Elkton police said Tuesday.

Sheriff’s Office investigators executed a court-approved search warrant at Bennett’s residence on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Items related to these investigations, including 10 bushels of live crabs, were seized and released to the appropriate agencies according to police.

Delaware authorities had previously obtained an arrest warrant for Bennett’s involvement in their crime. Cecil County authorities are working with the State’s Attorney’s office for criminal prosecution. Bennett was taken into custody and awaits extradition to Delaware.

Officials said an accomplice is still at large and yet to be identified.
